Update on my leg for those that have asked – Just got back from the Surgeon. He says after eight weeks, there isn’t enough healing so I have to wait at least another month. Because of some other long term health issues I have, the bone isn’t healing as fast as it should. Looking at the X-Ray, realistically I would guess that I may be able to walk and drive again sometime in the Winter. My entire Summer has evaporated. [insert very, very bad words here]

Sometimes you are driving through random farm roads looking for something interesting and you stumble on an unexpected scene like this. This is a farm on the corner of California Road and Hammerdown Road in Caernarvon, a remote section of Lancaster County Pennsylvania. The farmer obviously has a sense of history and this fifteen foot bridge looked to be constructed in a very sturdy way just like its larger cousins in the area.

I shot this as seven bracketed RAW frames at .7 stop increments and then combined them into an HDR with Photomatix Pro and finally, tone mapped that image.

On my way to try and locate the Hubler Covered Bridge in Union County today I came up on this farm with these friendly horses. The tan colored horse really caught my eye because of the color. You don’t see many horses that color in Pennsylvania. He seemed to be both curious and very friendly and came right up to the fence and let me pet his nose. You folks who live in the city don’t know what you are missing by not being able to interact with animals like this on your journeys. I never did locate the bridge (one of many GPS failures during this particular day) but I got to make some new horse friends.

Shot as a single exposure with my Sigma 10-20mm on the D300.

I saw a similar shot of this Mail Pouch Tobacco Barn in Perkiomenville, PA that was taken back in 2007 and after researching the location and mapping it out, decided to take a trip down there today. I was hoping the rusting car would still be in the same place and the other shot I saw said this farm has been in exactly this same state for nearly 50 years. Luckily, the car was still there and it does not look to be going anywhere anytime soon.

I shot this as seven bracketed RAW frames at .7 stop increments and then combined them into an HDR with Photomatix Pro and finally, tone mapped that image. The new version 4 of Topaz Adjust was applied to bring out the old wood textures in the barn. I’m definitely coming back here some Summer morning when the light hits the barn properly to get a few more compositions.

An old Alice Chalmers tractor sits in tall grass at the end of a field across from the Anderson Farm Covered Bridge near Lake Meade in Adams County Pennsylvania. It looked like it had broke down years ago and the farmer just left it at that spot to be consumed by weeds and the ravishes of time. You have to feel sorry for a neglected tractor like this.

If you want information on antique Alice Chalmers Tractors (and who doesn’t) you can find that here. God bless the Interenet. :–)

I shot this handheld as seven bracketed RAW frames and then combined them into an HDR with Photomatix Pro and then, tone mapped that image before taking that into Photoshop CS4 and working on it a bit with the Topaz Adjust plugin to make this more “tractoriffic”.

This is the primary reason I bought that Sigma 10-20mm super wide angle. Giant freaking cow heads ! WooHoo !

I took this at a farm adjacent to a covered bridge I was shooting in Lancaster County, PA on Sunday. There were six cows in a small herd and when I approached the all stepped backwards and gave me a leery eye. Then this cow stepped forward and came right up to the fence, sensing I was no threat and proceeded to spend some quality time with me. I think she was the official “spokescow” for the group.

I wonder if Billy Mays sells anything that will get Cow snot off a Sigma lens ? LOL

Apparently this made Flickr Explorer at #9 (fittingly enough seeing as this is cow # 9) on 4-19-2009.
