Update on my leg for those that have asked – Just got back from the Surgeon. He says after eight weeks, there isn’t enough healing so I have to wait at least another month. Because of some other long term health issues I have, the bone isn’t healing as fast as it should. Looking at the X-Ray, realistically I would guess that I may be able to walk and drive again sometime in the Winter. My entire Summer has evaporated. [insert very, very bad words here]

This is another look at the Star Barn complex including the main barn in the background, the hog barn in the foreground and the top of the poultry barn off to the left.

The Star Barn is located in Middletown, PA just off route 283. It was built in 1872 and there have been recent fund raising drives and organizational activities centered around moving the entire Star Barn complex to a new home in Grantville, PA where it will act as a museum and agricultural outreach of sorts. On the day that I shot this, it was extremely windy and the think dark clouds looked like they would open up and drench the barn at any moment. I want to go back on a better weather day and capture some of the famous reflections of the barn in the nearby pond.

Two horses graze in a field in front of the Bertolet barn at the Daniel Boone Homestead. It was really windy today with gusts up to 50MPH so it was a challenge to try and find things to photograph. The value of a good quality sturdy tripod cannot be underestimated on a day like today.

I shot this as five bracketed RAW frames at .7 stop variance and then combined them into an HDR and toned mapped them with Photomatix Pro to create the final product. I’d like to thank the horses for the minimal amount of movement in between shots. They were especially cooperative today.

This is an old barn from my travels through Union County back on 4-2-2010. According to the GPS in my car, the small town was called New Columbia. Hopefully by now, the farmer has planted some of his crops and is getting ready for another season of prosperous farming in North Central Pennsylvania.

You can tell this barn was used to store hay in the top 2/3rd of the building by the louvered windows. It’s important to provide a lot of ventilation for hay especially if it is cut wet and stored because it will have a tendency to spontaneously combust otherwise

I shot this as seven hand held bracketed RAW frames at .7 stop increments and then combined them into an HDR with Photomatix Pro and finally, tone mapped that image.

I wish I remembered where this barn actually was but the on-camera GPS geotagged this as being in a location in the middle of the woods where it couldn’t possibly have been. I know it was near the end of a very long downhill road before it joined up with another road. Sometimes you just drive around and stumble upon great old barns like this.

I shot this as five hand held bracketed RAW frames at 1/3rd increments and then combined them into an HDR with Photomatix Pro and finally, tone mapped that image. Cokin Pro-Z graduated neutral density filter used to counteract some of the contrastyness of the sun at that time.

This is an old farm house located on the corner of Passmore and Hoffmansville Roads in Bechtelsville, PA just north of Grandview Speedway. Google maps satellite view still shows the barn that was once located along the Passmore Road side of the farm. Someone is still farming the land and there were hay bales from last year’s crop still in the field. In the summer months, the front of this house gets completely overgrown with Ivy.
