Moreland Covered Bridge (Lycoming County, PA)

This bridge was built in 1888 and runs 186 feet across the Little Muncy Creek just outside the very remote village of Lairdsville in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The bridge, which has also been known as “Fraser Bridge”, is not closed to traffic however there is really no place to go once you cross the bridge since the road ends in a turnaround immediately after you exit the bridge. The bridge is in good structural condition but could really use some preservation measures on the wall planks. On the opposite side of the bridge there were a few boards missing. Although not the most beautiful of the four bridges in Lycoming County, Moreland Bridge still offers a lot of country character to the visitor.

I shot this back on 3-20-2010 as seven bracketed RAW frames at .7 stop increments and then combined them into an HDR with Photomatix Pro and finally, tone mapped that image before converting it to B & W using NIK Software’s Silver Efex Pro.

If you are looking for a good book on learning Nik Silver Efex Pro for black and white conversions and processing, I highly recommend Jason Odell’s “Photographers Guide to Silver Efex Pro“. It is available as a downloadable eBook and can be purchased on this page. Jason is one half of the “Nikonians Image Doctors” podcast along with Rick Walker. Jason’s eBook on Digital Landscape photography is pretty good as well. .
