Not long for this world

Not long for this world

While I was shooting this crib barn in Wyalusing up in Bradford County, PA back on 3-9-2010, the farmer who owns the barn happened to pull up in his beat up pickup truck. He saw I had an interest in the barn and told me that as soon as the field was dry enough he was going to take the bulldozer out there and knock the barn down. He explained that it was all rotted in the back near the foundation and he was afraid it was going to end up falling on someone one day. I suspect this crib barn is now in a big pile of firewood waiting to heat the farmer’s house when next Winter comes calling. I feel deeply honored that I had the opportunity to document this structure before it met its demise. It’s amazing to think of all the world has been through during the years this barn sat on this farm. If old wood could talk…

Shot as seven bracketed RAW frames at 1/3rd stop variance, combined into an HDR and tone mapped with Photomatix then several texture background layers blended from the commercially available Summer Painterly Texture Pack from Flypaper Textures.
