This is the Dreibelbis Covered Bridge. Build in 1869, it spans the Maiden Creek near Lenhartsville, PA in Berks County. It is 172 feet long and utilizes the Burr Arch Truss in its construction. It is named for the family that ran a saw mill very close by. PA 143 runs along side the Maiden Creek and the bridge is located about 1 1/2 miles south of Lenhartsville. There is an interesting writeup on the bridge’s history done by Fred Moll, who happens to be my parent’s next door neighbor. The bridge is one of five remaining historical covered bridges in Berks County.

I shot this as five bracketed RAW frames at 1/3rd stop increments and then combined them into an HDR with Photomatix Pro and finally, tone mapped that image. I used the new Photoshop CS5 “Content aware fill” feature to get rid of all the telephone polls, wires and road signs that litter the portal of an otherwise beautiful bridge. It was my first attempt at using this feature. It will take a few more tries before I think I will have it somewhat mastered.

The Cows were very cooperative with me and did not move in between shots, instead, choosing to partake in a heated staring contest with the strange man with the tripod and camera. Moo !
