I’ve passed this old Atlantic gas pump a thousand times but the way the setting sun’s light was hitting it tonight was pretty special and I decided top stop and capture it. The pump is located on the farm property adjoining the Henry Fisher House in Yellow Hosue which is a farming community in Berks County Pennsylvania.
I believe Atlantic Refining Company was a predecessor to the Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (ARCO for short) which was pretty popular in Pennsylvania for some years up until the 70s. The pump would have serviced the farm equipment found on the farm. I’m not sure of the year of the pump but I’m sure someone out there collects these and would be able to give an approximate year it would have been installed. I’m thinking the late 40′s/early 50s.
I shot this as seven hand held bracketed RAW frames and then combined them into an HDR with Photomatix Pro and finally, tone mapped that image to create the final product.
