Monthly Archives: August 2009 This is the Grand Point View on route 30 on top of Mt. Ararat, elevation 2464 feet. The lookout tops Bedford County Pennsylvania. A once grand hotel stood here called the Grandview Hotel. The hotel, built in 1932, was shaped like a ship and afforded guests unparalleled views of seven Pennsylvania counties and three states....  Four Great Egrets preen their feathers while standing on submerged tree stumps in Bear Swamp pool at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Smyrna, Delaware on 8-1-2009. On this day at the refuge, the Osprey Mom at the last nest was showing her two chicks how to take off and land by repeatedly taking off from the nest, sometimes with a fish, sometime without one, taking a few laps and then landing. On Saturday, 8-8-2009 I spent the day in search of mills, mostly grist mills, with existing water wheels. Another shot taken in daylight where the angle and the shutter speed blew out the background data in the RAW file leaving me with a nice subject isolation of this Great Blue Heron. I further darkened the background a bit using a Tiffen “Day for Night” filter from their Dfx filter collection for Photoshop and...  The hundreds of Great Egrets that gathered together in one are of Bear Swamp pool were constantly vying for a sitting spot on these stumps that stuck out over the water. They know that fish like to gather under the stumps for shelter and an Egret standing on the trunk instead of in the water... |
