This the Cuppert’s Covered Bridge which spans the Dunnings Creek at a length of 60 feet. The bridge was built in 1882 utilizing a Burr Truss design and is located along State Route 96 in Napier Township within Bedford County Pennsylvania. The structure is in excellent condition but open only to pedestrian traffic. A short private road that joins route 96 runs down to the bridge and you can park at the end of that road while visiting the bridge but keep in mind that the bridge is privately owned. The WGCB # for this bridge is 38-05-18. It features a unique non-painted design which really shows off the beauty of the natural aged wood that went into making this structure.
This is one of ten Bedford County covered bridges I visited on 8-15-2009. Bedford County turned out to have so many neat things to discover that it will take several trips until I am satisfied that I have even made a dent in the list of cool things to see and photograph. It’s a three hour drive for me but well worth it.
I shot this as seven hand-held bracketed Raw frames and then combined them into an HDR and tone mapped the image with Photomatix Pro. I also did some post processing work on it with the newly released Topaz Detail plugin for Photoshop CS4.
