Another great, old, wooden barn I found on a road on the outskirts of Flemington, New Jersey on Saturday 8-8-2009. For you city slickers out there, those things sticking up from both barns are lightning rods. They attract the lightning during storms and channel the electricity down to the ground where it can do no harm instead of striking the barn itself. They are an important safety feature since often times a barn will be the tallest item in a wide open expanse of land and susceptible to attracting lightning strikes during a storm. Dry hay stored in a barn is like tinder to a match so ever precaution is taken to make sure the barn is safe from lightning in a storm.
I shot this as five hand held bracketed RAW frames and then combined them into an HDR with Photomatix Pro and finally, tone mapped that image to create the final product. I’m more and more impressed by Photomatix’s ability to align hand held shots like this each time I use it.
I found this old chicken barn on a road on the outskirts of Flemington. Obviously in need of some love.
I found this barn on Ferry Road in Stockton. As I turned the corner, the red just hit me like a baseball bat. I had to stop and take a few shots. The barns and the farm in general were immaculately maintained.
