The hundreds of Great Egrets that gathered together in one are of Bear Swamp pool were constantly vying for a sitting spot on these stumps that stuck out over the water. They know that fish like to gather under the stumps for shelter and an Egret standing on the trunk instead of in the water often will have a surprise advantage over the fish. From my afternoon trip to Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge outside of Smyrna, Delaware on Saturday 8-1-2009.
