Stillwater Covered Bridge (Columbia County, PA)

Stillwater Covered Bridge (Columbia County, PA)

The Stillwater Covered Bridge is located in the small town of Stillwater, Pennsylvania. The bridge was built in 1849 by James McHenry and runs 151 feet across the Fishing Creek. It features a burr-arch design and is open to only foot traffic, with vehicular traffic being disallowed since 1949. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 29, 1979 as ref # NRHP 79003177.

Part of my nine covered bridge blitz through Columbia County on Saturday 4-25-2009 (date was incorrectly set in the camera at that time so EXIF data is wrong). I shot this as five RAW bracketed frames then converted it to an HDR (High Dynamic Range) image using Photomatix Pro. The bridge is located right next to this one room schoolhouse I had posted earlier.

There is an excellent covered bridge tour map in the form of a printable PDF offering two loops that cover all 25 covered bridges in Columbia and Montour counties available here
