Red Run Covered Bridge - Lancaster County

This is a covered bridge best described as decrepit but historically important. It is currently located over dry land on private property adjacent to the grounds of the Red Run Campground in Earl Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

In 1961 a new concrete bridge was built and the Muddy Creek rerouted to bypass the old covered bridge. It is reported that the campground has used the inside of the bridge for church services in inclement weather. The bridge was built in 1866 by Elias McMellen and is 107 feet long. It was also known as the Oberholzer’s Covered Bridge, Run Red Grist Mill Bridge and Red Bank Bridge. The bridge has a single span, wooden, double Burr arch trusses design.

The WGCB # for this bridge is 38-36-10.

Processed as an HDR with Photomatix Pro from five RAW bracketed frames and touched up a bit with Topaz Adjust Plugin for Photoshop CS4 to bring out some of the weathered tones in the wood of the bridge and fence.
